Course Overview

This course equips teachers with the knowledge and tools to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at the classroom level while also utilizing tiered supports at the school wide level. Educators will learn proactive strategies to model and reinforce positive behavior, and respond effectively to challenges. Students will read online articles and chapters in suggested texts and respond to written prompts that encourage reflection and application of PBIS at their own site.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to do the following:

  • Examine the foundations of PBIS and how alignment with IDEA supports the success of all students.
  • Understand and apply behavioral principles behind PBIS
  • Differentiate Tier 1, 2, and 3 behavioral interventions and recognize appropriate application
  • Apply PBIS strategies to a case study
  • Design a PBIS implementation plan/matrix to continue to develop at your school site
