Course Overview:

Develop foundational skills and practical approaches to enhance classroom instruction through generative AI chats. Discover the professional values that ISTE Teacher Standards, CC Standards and State AI guidelines bring to affirming usage of AI chats as a key piece of the AI-seeded pedagogical shift occurring in education. Build proficiency in AI literacy and address ethical challenges while maintaining a focus on enhancing creativity, shaping personalized learning and cultivate critical thinking for teachers and students.

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define Generative AI chats and example their use as a powerful assistant for both teachers and students.
  2. Understand how large language models (LLMs) function and differentiate between generative AI chats and traditional search engines.
  3. Identify and discuss the ethical considerations, potential biases, and limitations of educators using AI in an educational context, particularly concerning academic integrity and data privacy.
  4. Discuss, teach and model responsible student responsibility.
  5. Pursue development of school and classroom policies and practices for the use of generative AI to streamline professional tasks within the classroom.
  6. Classroom routines, curriculum development and AI chat use by students.
  7. Learn, practice and evaluate effective AI chat prompting using a structured framework (e.g., instructions, voice, context, format) to achieve desired results.
  8. Utilize generative AI to streamline and improve professional and administrative tasks, such as drafting communications, creating outlines, and summarizing information, to save time and reduce workload.
